DALLAS – (July 24, 2020) Hoy, la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de los EE. UU. (EPA, por sus siglas en inglés) agregó 32 nuevos desinfectantes de superficies a la Lista N, la lista de productos que recopila la agencia que se prevé sirvan para eliminar el SARS-CoV-2, el nuevo coronavirus causante del COVID-19.

 

“Desde el primer día, la prioridad de la EPA ha sido proporcionar al público fácil acceso a la información que necesita para protegerse junto con sus familias contra el virus causante de COVID-19”, señaló Andrew Wheeler, administrador de la EPA. “A través de nuestros esfuerzos para expandir la Lista N, estamos asegurando que los estadounidenses tengan un conjunto más amplio de productos aprobados para limpiar y desinfectar superficies y ayudar a reducir la propagación del coronavirus.”

 

Los desinfectantes pueden calificar para ser incluidos en la Lista N de tres maneras:

 

  1. El producto ha sido probado contra el coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
  2. El producto tiene una eficacia demostrada contra otro coronavirus similar al SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).
  3. El producto ha demostrado ser eficaz contra un patógeno que es más difícil de eliminar que el SARS-CoV (COVID-19).

 

La EPA ha agregado 32 productos nuevos a la Lista-N. Estos productos ya han sido aprobados como tuberculocidas. Aunque no han sido sometidos a prueba contra el SARS-CoV-2, están aprobados para eliminar  el patógeno causante de tuberculosis y se prevé que elimina el SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) al utilizarse como lo indica la etiqueta (categoría tres señalada anteriormente).

 

Muchos productos tuberculocidas son desinfectantes potentes y tienen una larga trayectoria de uso para limpiar hospitales y otros centros de salud. Al utilizar dichos productos, es crucial seguir las instrucciones de la etiqueta, incluidas las declaraciones de precaución.

 

Los desinfectantes pueden comercializarse y venderse usando una variedad de marcas y nombres de productos. Por lo tanto, los usuarios de la Lista N deben usar las primeras dos secciones del número de registro de un producto al buscar en la Lista N, en vez de su nombre de marca. Por ejemplo, si aparece EPA Reg. No. 12345-12 en la Lista N, puede comprar el producto que indica EPA Reg. No. 12345-12-2567 teniendo la seguridad de que se trata de un producto equivalente.
